Baseball smash cake session, and add some popcorn!

I’m partial to this little guy, because he’s all mine. The closer we got to his first birthday, I knew without a doubt I wanted him to have a baseball smash cake session. Putting this setup together was so fun for me. I knew I wanted to include the colors red, white, and blue, as well as all things baseball. Each little detail came together and made it better than I had hoped for.

I had the cutest “Rookie of the Year” shirt made from Etsy. He wore the shirt at the beginning of this session before everything got messy. For a smash cake session, I always recommend getting some photos before the cake comes out. You can even include a different outfit for both portions of the photo session. The setup was so cute I took full advantage and had clean portraits as well as the smash cake portion. It worked out so well. Just about the time he was starting to lose focus, the cake came out and it was something new again.

My smash cake sessions tend to be more simplistic. There’s a reason for this. I believe there can be too many props. Ha ha! When you have a ton of props, it looks way too distracting. Together with the parents, we discuss themes, colors, and what they would like to include. I make sure there’s a good amount of props, if needed, and I always include a few things that the child can hold if they’re losing attention. I gave my little guy a baseball to hold and he loved having something new to play with. I got some of his best smiles while he held that baseball.

A smash cake session is so much fun and I would highly recommend not skipping them! This baseball smash cake session just happens to be one of my favorite ones. If you’re on the fence or have questions, don’t hesitate to message me. Check out a few of my favorite photos from his photo session below.
